HALITOSIS/ BAD BREATH

Bad breath/Halitosis can be caused by many things, cavities, dentures, smoking, alcohol, lung infection, throat infection, everything from certain foods to poor oral hygiene. So here are some tips that may help you with bad breath.
  • Brush your teeth after every meal.
  • Chew some cardamom seeds to sweeten your breath. The aromatic flavour in cardamom is a breath freshner. It is an effective home remedy for bad breath.
  • Add 1 lemon juice with some sugar and salt to a glass of water and drink it often.
  • Parsley is a great food to neutralizer. It's leaves are rich in chlorophyll, nature's own deodoriser. Chew some leaves for fresh breath. It is also a good remedy for bad breath. Two cups of water is taken and boiled with several sprigs of parsley, coarsely chopped, should be steeped in this water. Add two to three whole cloves or you can also go for one tsp of powdered cloves. This mixture is to be stirred occasionally while cooling. After that, it is to be strained and used as mouthwash. You can also gargle the same several times a day.
  • Tea made from Fenugreek (methi) seeds is also beneficial in bad breath and bad odour. It will help you to get rid of bad breath.
  • Brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth.
  • Rinse your mouth before sleeping with a glass of water with the juice of half a lemon added.
  • Drink Water throughout the day.
  • If you keep teeth, tongue, and mouth clean, you will not suffer from the problem of bad breath. You should take all care in cleaning your teeth by using proper tooth brush and adopting correct brushing technique.
  • Chewing of very green Guava which should be almost raw will help in the bad breath.
  • Another good remedy for halitosis is Avocado. This is considered to be valuable in treating the problem related to bad breath.
  • Vegetables and fruit juices help in a great way to solve the problem occurred by halitosis.
  • The patient should be having a well balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts, vegetables, grains and fruits. In case of constipation, patient should avoid all dry foods.
  • The teeth should be cleaned at least twice a day with preferably herbal toothpaste.
  • Take care about using the toothpick. Any damage to the gums will make them bleeding and that will again cause bad breath.
  • Try to open your mouth and breathe deeply through the mouth. You should do this at least twice in half an hour.
  • Certain Ayurvedic therapies like ‘Kavala’ and ‘Gandusha’ are good for halitosis. In fact these therapies are one of the best home remedies for halitosis. These therapies are performed by keeping medicated herbal decoction or any liquid material into the mouth. You should either gargle or retain the solution for couple of minutes. Practicing regularly takes off the bad breath.
  • Choose a mouthwash which is containing eucalyptol and thymol. These oils are derived from the thyme and eucalyptus. They are proven to destroy the bacteria that cause the bad breath.
  • Avoid toothpaste and mouthwash containing amino acid cysteine. This worsens the case of bad breath.
  • Another good home remedy for halitosis is taking plenty of vitamins like C and E. These help in reducing the bad breath.
  • Other elements like zinc, coenzyme Q10, and folic acid are also considered to be helpful in reducing the bad odor in the mouth.
  • Baking soda rinse is also said to be good for eliminating or reducing the bad breath. This is one of the good home remedies for halitosis.
  • One of the good ideas for treating the bad breath is proper oral hygiene. People suffering from bad breath should brush their teeth immediately after consuming sulfur-rich foods. Sulfur reach foods include dairy, fish, and meat etc. You can also keep sugar-free mints or gum on hand for use in a pinch.
  • Certain Ayurvedic herbs like ‘Triphala’ are to be gargled in the form of decoction. This is useful and trustable natural home remedy for halitosis.
